Beneficial Bacteria and Enzymes

In an ecosystem, numerous interactions between organisms result in a flow of energy and cycling of matter. Food chains, the nitrogen cycle, and the carbon cycle are examples of these interactions. A food chain is the sequence of steps through which the process of energy transfer occurs in an ecosystem. All organisms need a continuous supply of energy. Energy flows through an ecosystem in one direction through food chains.

Bacteria are the base for the animal food chain within a pond or lake. Bacteria consume (decompose) waste products and assimilate nutrients by converting this material to other bacteria through the process of growing, reproducing, and multiplying. Bacteria then become the food source for other aquatic organisms such as zoo-flagellates, ciliates, and rotifers, which in turn become food for fish, insects, invertebrates, and other organisms. These living organisms compete for the nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus) necessary for the growth of algae. Depending on the type of product and the species in it, bacteria can reduce organic sediment (muck) from the lake bottom, improve water clarity, reduce the amount of nitrogen and phosphorus available for algae growth, and aid in the improvement of overall water quality.

Life on earthwould not exist without enzymes, just as life would not exist without oxygen or water. Enzymes are organic proteins made from amino acids. An enzyme is formed by stringing together 100 or even a 1,000 amino acids in a very specific and unique order. The chain of amino acids then folds into a unique shape that allows the enzyme to act as a catalyst to carry out specific chemical reactions.

We must remember that it is the bacteria that produce the enzymes, so the more bacteria the more enzymes. Initial doses of enzymes are quickly diluted and performance depends upon subsequent production by the bacteria in clear pond. Just adding enzymes is a very short- term solution.

This is a non-chemical approach which basically involves living organisms feeding off of the excess nutrients that would otherwise be available for plant growth. Typically they are a concentrated blend of naturally occurring bacteria and enzymes that rapidly biodegrade sludge, improve water quality, decrease suspended particulate matter and solids, and control odor if used correctly in the proper blend for the pond.

The efficiency of any enzyme or bacteria depends on the amount of wastes available, the abundance of dissolved oxygen accessible to the organisms, water chemistry (ex. pH), and the type or strains of bacteria present to do the job. In eutrophic (aging) ponds and lakes where aquatic plants and algae are a problem, there is normally an abundance of organic wastes.

Bio- augmentation of the existing microorganisms through regular addition of biological active seed cultures, such as Nucleous formula, on a regular preventive maintenance schedule and also to increase the levels of oxygen in water by adding aeration.

Bio- augmentation means helping Mother Nature to do a better job microbiologically by supplementing the natural microbes found in pond water with our patented enhanced microbes. Nature abounds with microbial cultures in the air, soil and water. These microbes exist because they have adapted and continue to adapt to changes in the environment. They adapt because they can metabolize certain surrounding substances (their food) to obtain energy and nutrients. But, this does not mean they can handle an ever- increasing load. Nucleous provide an enhanced patented bacterial culture that work as a team and were developed for their ability to produce large quantities of digestive enzymes in an aquatic environment.
